Your background?
I started my mining career on gold mines.
In 1982 I obtained a National Mining
Diploma, then in 1987 a Cum Laude
Engineering degree at the University of
Pretoria. I moved to platinum in 1996 at
Union Section and in 2000 I was
appointed GM of Amandelbult. In 2005 I
became head of Safety and Sustainable
Development at Anglo Platinum and in
2009 I moved to projects, where I
became Twickenham General Manager.
Your biggest achievements?
Producing two tonnes of platinum from 650 tonnes of ore in one month, with only 13 000 people at Amandelbult, at the lowest recorded production cost in the platinum industry.
How do you see African mining in a year's time?
Big opportunities await our industry, with global and local demand on the increase.
