An international mining and engineering project management company certified to the global occupational health and safety management system standard, OHSAS 18001, integrated into its risk management system.
Certification of TWP Projects to OHSAS 18001, builds on earlier ISO 9001 quality management certification, and will soon be followed by certification of TWP's environmental management practices to ISO 14001.
The Inter disciplinary integration is in accordance with ISO 31000 guidelines on risk management and international best practice for governance. TWP's management standardisation would ensure an integrated and risk driven quality system, covering all disciplines. If everyone adhered to best practice, then everyone would be average. TWP MD Digby Glover explained that "values determine behaviour, and thus business performance".
The company implements its values of care, innovation and excellence to continuously raise its performance in providing services to clients, Glover said at a ceremony at the TWP headquarters in Melrose Arch,
at the TWP headquarters in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg.”Systems merely modify behaviour, but neither fanfare nor processes will sustain excellence."
He believes that the best human values should be ingrained in corporate culture and be evident in the actions of all staff, specifically in respect of safety and sustainable development.
UBUNTU AND VISIBLE LEADERSHIP
"We have adapted and adopted the philosophy of ubuntu to apply to safety; 'I am safe because you are safe', meaning that every staff member has a positive duty to ensure his or her own safety, as well as the safety of colleagues.
“TWP management is therefore
visibly involved in day to day workplace activities, applying their influence, activating common values, and demonstrating management commitment to TWP's safety culture," Glover said.
A recent ethics monitor survey conducted by TWP among staff and contractors, showed that 85% of respondents believe that TWP is actively demonstrating and living a safety culture.
"OHSAS 18001 certification assures international clients that TWP's commitment to world class safety management is irrefutable," said Glover.
Following a good 10 year safety track record, TWP recently became part of the Basil Read group, with TWP offices in SA, Peru, Australia and Zambia.
