Egypt plans to double its oil refining capacity, currently at 700 000 barrels per day, from nine refineries. Eight are state owned and one is private.
The country plans to become a regional centre for petroleum product exports, and is strengthening strategic cooperation with high oil and gas market potential, reports Industrial Info Resources of Sugar Land, Texas.
Technip Italy was awarded a contract last year to expand the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) in Alexandria, based on technology from Conoco Phillips of Houston, Texas, aiming to increase its range of products like gasoil, gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and jet fuel. MIDOR announced that mechanical works would be completed at the end of 2010, expanding a delayed coker unit by installing a third heater, increasing production capacity by 17%.
